Post HIS Implementation Assessment

The post healthcare information system (HIS) assessment includes a review of your information technology environment and future implementation plans, especially as they relate to your current HIS installation. The assessment:

Reviews existing HIS software and how well it is being used, and what technologies are being used within departments related to the software.
Reviews IT-related business practices and requirements against industry best practices.
Conducts a high-level assessment of processes to identify those that were beneficial and detrimental to the HIS implementation and how they can be improved.

How Does It Work?

ICE performs the objective assessment using hospital and vendor interviews, department visits, and system reviews. The interviews provide a backdrop to the implementation issues and ongoing concerns by leadership and facility departments. In addition, vendor interviews provide insight into the implementation and how resources were deployed. The interviews include:

Facility leadership, both individual and team
Department leadership and key personnel
Information technology support staff
Vendor sales and fulfillment leadership

The majority of the information is gathered from hospital management and IT staff. Team interviews are conducted with hospital management in order to ascertain overall effectiveness of the existing IT solutions, and the support related to those systems. Individual interviews and department walkthroughs are conducted to gain a deeper understanding of IT system usage, workflow processes, staff roles and skill levels and IT support structure.

Assessment Deliverable

Report findings are identified through interviews, observations and existing documentation, and recommendations are based on current industry best practices. Recommended action items explain what technology and process changes are needed to address and correct the identified findings and issues.

The assessment will:

Outline and summarize IT business objectives and high-level strategies based on the review.
Provide a timeline with milestones required to accomplish the strategies and goals.
Provide findings and recommendations for presentation to Administration, as well as the Board, if required.
Outline strategies for working with physicians to achieve the best long term results.
Develop recommended and prioritized action items.
